Artist's Description

Most people never had the honor or privilege to know him but my Grandfather was a true American hero. Unlike the icons and heroes of today- which consist mostly of celebrities and sports stars, my Grandfather, Donald Ray Williams, was the real thing. He joined the Army Air Force on June 16, 1944 at the age of 15 and flew 17 missions as a flight engineer during WWII. He proudly served his country for 26 years fighting in WWII, The Korean War, and The Vietnam War. He flew over 150 missions and was stationed at 24 bases in 6 different countries during that time. These items are most of what I have left of him along with a lot of great memories. When he died on October 31, 2010, these items were some of the treasures he held most dear to him and they are part of my fond memories.

This is a picture of my Grandfather around the time that he joined the military (age 15) and joined in WWII. Included in this image is his picture, his childhood Bible, his military issue 1940's survival...

All of the years leading up to that I had spent as a military brat mostly in the state of Delaware where I grew up. In January of 2000, I became an orthodontist assistant; it was during that time of taking intraoral photos that I discovered my love of photography. FYI, that's probably the weirdest, "I discovered my passion for...
