Artist's Description

This is a picture that I took while visiting Caddo Lake. Caddo Lake (French: Lac Caddo) is a 25,400 acres lake and wetland located on the border between Texas and Louisiana, in northern Harrison County and southern Marion County in Texas and western Caddo Parish in Louisiana. The lake is named after the Southeastern culture of Native Americans called Caddoans or Caddo, who lived in the area until their expulsion in the 19th century. It is an internationally protected wetland under the RAMSAR treaty and features the largest Cypress forest in the world. Caddo is one of Texas' few non-oxbow natural lakes and is the 2nd largest in the South.

According to Caddo legend, the lake was formed by the 1812 New Madrid Earthquake. There may be some truth to the legend, as Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee was formed by that earthquake. Most geologists feel the lake was formed, either gradually or catastrophically, by the "Great Raft," a 100-mile (160-km) log jam on the Red River in Louisiana, po...

Anyway, a little about me....Prior to my husband's retirement in January of 2015, I had spent 15 years as an Air Force wife. All of the years leading up to that I had spent as a military brat mostly in the state of Delaware where I grew up. In January of 2000, I became an orthodontist assistant; it was during that time of taking intraoral photos that I discovered my love of photography. FYI, that's probably the weirdest, "I discovered my passion for...
