This was well worth the tremendous effort your exerted to achieve this capture of this magnificent old Mill...so well done and captured, the reflection, the lighting is perfect, it is easy to imagine while viewing this image that the rain has been falling down...now that it has stopped, the smell of the countryside is so fresh and it is so still and beautiful! Outstanding work, v/f/twt and FEATURED in Old Building and Ruins, Congratulations!

Thanks Mark! It is a nice place. I wish it hadn't been raining and I hadn't had to rush out of there there's so much more there to see and photograph.

Artist's Description

A picture of Mabry Mills which is located in Virginia. It took me about an hour and a half to reach this mill from when I started to ascend the mountain. About two-thirds of the way up I ran into heavy rain. I debated turning around but decided since I had climbed the crazy roads and braved the rain to get within 7 miles of my destination after an 1800 mile trip, I wasn't going back without a picture.

Mabry Mill is a watermill located on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Floyd County, Virginia. It is a tourist attraction mainly for the picturesque views of the mill itself. A short trail around the mill connects historical exhibits about life in rural Virginia. The trail allows visitors to view the gristmill, sawmill, and blacksmith shop.

Mabry Mill was built by Edwin Boston Mabry (E.B. Mabry). E.B. Mabry returned to Floyd County in 1903 and began the construction of the mill. It was first a blacksmith and wheelwright shop, then became a sawmill. By 1905 it was in operation a...

About Amber Kresge

Amber Kresge

First and foremost, in the unlikely event that I ever become famous, I would like to ensure that my name is not butchered in households across America. So that being said, my last name is pronounced, "KRES-GEE", or "KREZ-GEE"-not "KRESAGE" which is how most people generally pronounce it. Anyway, a little about me....Prior to my husband's retirement in January of 2015, I had spent 15 years as an Air Force wife. All of the years leading up to that I had spent as a military brat mostly in the state of Delaware where I grew up. In January of 2000, I became an orthodontist assistant; it was during that time of taking intraoral photos that I discovered my love of photography. FYI, that's probably the weirdest, "I discovered my passion for...
