This album is in honor of my Grandfather and it's for those who loved him. It's also for all you military men and women and for any history buffs. These articles are a part of history that you've probably never seen before and most likely will not see again. Most people never had the honor or privilege to know him but my Grandfather was a true American hero. Unlike the icons and heroes of today- which consist mostly of celebrities and sports stars, my Grandfather, Donald Ray Williams, was the real thing. He joined the Army Air Force on June 16, 1944 at the age of 15 and flew 17 missions as a flight engineer during WWII. He proudly served his country for 26 years fighting in WWII, The Korean War, and The Vietnam War. He flew over 150 missions and was stationed at 24 bases in 6 different countries during that time. These items are most of what I have left of him along with a lot of great memories. When he died on October 31, 2010, these items were some of the treasures he held most dear to him and they are part of my fond memories. My Grandfather wasn't a man who found it easy to express his emotions-in the 30+ yrs I had him, I never once heard him say, I love you. However, I never doubted his love and it meant more to me than I can express, that among his treasures, (which included his survival vest, pictures of his family, my Grandmother's jewelry and jewelry box, his childhood Bible, his baby book, etc.) was a report I had written in high school about him and his time in WWII. THIS is an album of his treasures and mine.
